JAG Drive to Marin for Brunch

Nike Missile Site Tour
Hosted by George Barry

Saturday, July 22nd, 2017

One of the lesser known State parks in the San Francisco Area is Nike Missile Site SF-88.  SF-88 is a former Nike Missile launch site at Fort Barry, in the Marin Headlands Park.

Commissioned in 1954, the site was intended to protect the population and military installations of the San Francisco Bay Area during the Cold War, specifically from attack by Soviet bombers.  In 1974, SF-88 was closed but was not demolished and is now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is open to visitors and welcomes Jaguar automobiles.

We will meet and drive to the Buckeye Roadhouse restaurant near the Marin Headlands and after a group bunch we will continue our drive around the scenic Marin Headlands to SF-88.  At the missile-site we will park and be given a tour and demonstration of the facility which has disarmed missiles and launchers on display.  With luck the Park Ranger guiding our tour will have served at SF-88 when it was an operational site.

The drive to and from the site around the Marin Headland Park provides spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco beyond.

We will arrive  at the Buckeye Roadhouse (15 Shoreline Hwy, Mill Valley, CA 94941) around 11:30am on July 22nd to start a great Jaguar day out.

The menu for our meal at the Buckeye Roadhouse is
