Wednesday September 20th and 21st

JAG Members, Michael Mergen and Carol Murray are pleased to announce the Murphys Madness…Summer’s Mid-Week Drive with a two night adventure to Calaveras County.  Save the dates: you will find up to eighteen Jaguars (and occupants) participating in a 3-day, 2 night re-introduction to the wonders and beauties of our Sierra Nevada foothills.

Michael and Carol have been successful in arranging discounted accommodations in two of the area’s finest Bed and Breakfast properties in downtown Murphys and they were able to negotiate a 40% reduction in rates for the two nights of our gathering.  A few of the upper end accommodations are exquisite 2 bedroom units and can be shared by members who have traveled together.

The costs will vary by accommodation and the typical cost per room will average about $120+tax per night per couple. Instructions for how to book your accommodations will follow.

The adventure will begin with a gathering at Livermore Jaguar just off I-580 between 9:30 and 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September, 20th.   Then it’s off to Hwy-120 and Hwy 99 North to Cal Hwy 4 and east to Angels Camp/Murphys.  We’ll take our lunch on the patio of the Historic Murphys Hotel at 1:00 PM prior to checking in to our respective accommodations.

There are 30 tasting rooms in and around downtown Murphys and a brew pub and we’ll have several hours to visit the shops, galleries and wineries before dinner at V Restaurant adjacent to the Victoria Inn at 7:00 PM.  Michael and Carol have made arrangements for the group to visit three of the “best of the best” tasting rooms on Main Street, and the tasting fees will be waived for our group.

Thursday morning both venues will offer a continental breakfast, and full breakfast can be purchased at several locations within a short walk from any of the properties.

We’ll gather at the parking lot of the Murphys Hotel (Main Street) between 9:15 and 9:30 AM and depart for a drive on Hwy 4 to Big Trees State Park (approximately 20 miles east of Murphys).  Regardless of how often you may have visited the Park the 1+ level mile stroll through this magnificent stand of Redwoods and newly completed visitor center is not to be missed.

At 11:15 AM we’ll depart Big Trees for a 30-40 minute drive into the Sierras passing Bear Valley and the Bear Valley ski facilities arriving at Lake Alpine (elevation 7,400’) The lake is stunning (bring your cameras) and the food at the local lodge (pub fare) is more than satisfactory. They’re expecting us for lunch at 12:30 PM.  After lunch you may wish to take a stroll on the paths surrounding the lake or begin the return drive to Murphys.

Thursday late afternoon is for shopping, tasting or exploring (there are two spectacular commercial caves within a 10 minute drive of downtown).

At 6:00 PM you’re invited for cocktails and a BBQ at Michael and Carol’s home on the creek just west of downtown Murphys.  Their home was initially built to serve as a road house and restaurant back in the late 40’s and has served as a venue for convivial pursuits for 70+ years.  Come see why they call this “home”.

Friday morning is yours to sleep in, explore or perhaps take a side trip to Columbia or Jamestown (30 minutes to the south) before heading home.

There are only three of the accommodations blocked that are available for a Friday stay-over to attend the Kautz Ironstone Concours event on Saturday.  These rooms are on hold but they will be offered at their regular retail prices on a first come first served basis.  There may be additional lodging options for Friday night in the area at Sonora, Arnold or Jamestown.

The lodgings are on hold until July 15th. If it’s your intention to attend you must reserve your room and forward a deposit in the amount by July 15th.  The accommodation fees include continental breakfasts for Thursday and Friday.

We will announce the cost of the group meals to be sent to JAG shortly.

So, come on with yo’ bad self!!! Sign up for summer in style with Carol Murray and Michael Mergen.   If you are interested in this great event please contact Les Hamilton and he will send more information to you.

Wednesday, October 18th

Roy and Rose Swearingen will host a drive to lunch at the La Strada restaurant in Vallejo followed by a visit to a local vineyard.  Roy and Rose always organize great events so mark your calendars for this super event.

Friday – Sunday, November 3-4, CalClubs 2017 Revival, Three Rivers

JAG and the other JCNA California Clubs will hold a combined meet at the Lazy J Ranch (lazyjranchmotel@gmail.com) (559)-561-4449, in Three Rivers, near Sequoia National Park.

JAG Members will meet at various points in the Bay area and drive to the approximate 250 miles to the hotels.  After a casual dinner, we will turn in for a good night’s rest.

On Saturday we will take the Jaguars on a tour of the Sequoia National Park  and lunch in the Park restaurant or bring a picnic lunch.  On Saturday evening, there will be a BBQ at the Lazy J Ranch and more opportunities to interact with other JCNA Club members.

On Sunday after breakfast we make our way home to the Bay Area taking in some interesting places along the way.

As you can see, the Board and JAG members have assembled a great set of events and venues for 2017.  If you need more information about any of these events, please contact les@jags.org.   Looking forward to seeing our members and their cars out there on the road.
